Abstract

The article analyzes the structural and semantic constructions used by A.P. Chekhov to describe the lexeme "laughter", which contains diverse shades of emotive semantics: positive, negative, neutral. This lexeme conveys the individual-author's approach in the works and reflects the worldview of the characters, expressed in their verbal and non-verbal communications through laughter. The writer reproduces the types of facial reactions, resorting to analytical or descriptive constructions, depending on the artistic task.
